‘Twas the night before Christmas
And all through the hospital
Many creatures were stirring
Even those who were so little
Merry Christmas to all my wonderful readers! I had the awesome privilege this year to bring presents to patients and their families. While it was difficult to get up before the crack of dawn, it was totally awesome to be a Christmas (ninja) elf. It was really great to see so many people working together to bring cheer to the children.
Holidays are hard for families when they are experiencing an unplanned visit to the hospital. Traditions are disrupted, family gatherings are canceled, and sometimes favorite holiday dishes are struck from the menu. While we can’t provide magic cures to everyone on Christmas, Child Life Specialists work hard to create an opportunity for families to mark the day as special. One way we can do this is provide presents for the families through the help of awesome volunteers and donors. For families whose homes are far away or have to use their money on medical bills; seeing their children receive a Christmas present does wonderful things for the morale. And the children themselves are reminded that they are not forgotten on Christmas, even though they far from home.
I know that there were many people that donated toys to hospitals all over the world for Christmas this year and I want to say thank you. I can tell you from experience that these donations make a world of difference!
