I am very excited to announce the official start of my journey of working as a child life specialist in private practice. Which basically means that I’m moving from the visioning stage of plotting and planning to the actual doing stage of telling people and promoting my services.
As most people experiencing a very different schedule during this time of quarantine due to COVID-19, I have been working through the process of normalizing my own experience. Actually, even before COVID-19 I was in the middle of a life change. (If you want to hear more about that, let me know! There might be another blog post in store!)
Having to move to working completely online has definitely opened my eyes and mind to a new world. I have recognized that I shouldn’t wait until I have planned everything perfectly, but I should try things, create things, build things… and understand that things will not always turn out as planned. As Ms. Frizzle likes to say, “Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!” So I’m about to get messy. And take chances. I make mistakes (though hopefully not too many!)
I will be offering a variety of child life services online on a consult basis, as well as some meetups for parents and for child life students. (Our CL students have definitely been hit really hard too!) So if you are interested in participating in any of these services, or want to share the information to others, let me know! Shoot me an email or leave a message in the comments.
For those of you who are wondering what will be available, I will be rolling out services as the needs present themselves. But to start with, I will be focusing on families who are looking for support during COVID-19, which can include explaining COVID-19 in a developmentally appropriate manner, establishing routines to help promote normalcy, as well as self-care and coping strategies. I will also be focusing on assisting child life students as they navigate this new terrain by providing opportunities for mentoring or simple assistance with resume, application, or essay review.
Two different groups, but both in need of assurance and assistance. Send me an email if you are more interested in any of these topics!
